Día de las Madres is celebrated on May 10th, regardless of the day of the week it falls on
Unlike Mother's Day in the US, which is celebrated on the second Sunday in May, Mexican Mother's Day is always celebrated on the fixed date of May 10th. In 2015 it falls on a Sunday, which also happens to be the US Mother's Day.
If your Mexican mother lives in the US send her flowers, one of our local florists will hand-deliver your gorgeous floral arrangement to her home or work. If she still lives in Mexico you can order flowers internationally. Don't forget to phone or Skype your mamá to let her know that how much you love and miss her!
Dinner reservations should be made early as Mexican restaurants will be crowded on May 10. Families gather, there is lively music and a complimentary treat for all the moms. If you decide to prepare dinner for her instead, then be sure to send her colorful flowers, especially roses, ahead of time to decorate the festivities.
"Happy Mother's Day" translates to ¡Feliz día de la madre! in spanish. The word for mother is madre, but just like in the US where we say mom instead of the more formal greeting of "mother", in Mexico - mami and mamá are typically used.
